On Friday, Sydney looked like this. She has a mild fever the night before, so I kept her home from school and we went to see her pediatrician. We got a prescription for antibiotics and went home to rest and recover. She threw up her first dose, but I didn't feel too alarmed. I assumed it was due to her empty stomach. She slept most of the day and seemed lethargic. I convinced her to eat a little toast and applesauce to hopefully keep down her evening medicine.
She was fairly successful until bedtime when the Tylenol did not sit well.
In the morning, she was much worse!!
We went into to the Saturday clinic. The doctor calmly told use we Needed to drive down to the hospital where we would be admitting her for a few days. I was freaking out on the inside, but tried not to alarm Sydney.
We drove home, packed up a bag and Sydney and I headed into the local children's hospital where she got her tubes and tonsils done. When we arrived, we were able to head to the admitting office, but she fell asleep in the lobby. We finally got her room and I put her In a wagon to get her to her room.
The we saw the student dr, pediatrician the intern Ent, and the opthamologist and finally the senior Ent dr. All of them said she needed iv antibiotics, but it took about 4 hours to actually get the iv in and drugs running.
She was so good during the iv installation. I was so proud of her!! They for her started in fluids and then best of all let her have a drink and a snack!! She choose chocolate ice cream and apple juice.
They also gave her a soft patch to place over her infected eye which is sensitive to light.
We watched a little tv, read Ramona the pest, and then she went to sleep for the night.
She slept well through the night, not disturbed too much by the hourly checks on her vitals.
At 6:30 the staff changed and new rounds of doctors came by to visit. She got a new dose of antibiotics and the invitation to stay for one more day.
So here we are waiting for her to get better. We still have our stories, and her ds. Sadly the iv is in her right hand so it makes her normal tasks more challenging.
The staff here is fantastic!! We are glad this was caught early enough that she does not need surgery, or have severe complications. They think this was a result of a sinus infection that had germs migrate for the sinus into the skin near her eye. Fortunately it did not go to her brain!!
